Tanabe logo spotted in GT6?

Spotted in GT6, the latest iteration of the Gran Turismo driving simulation games is this Tanabe sticker, but what is it on?

It’s the KEIHIN HSV-010 from Super GT500 series!

This race modified Honda HSV-010 GT features a specially manufactured Tanabe PRO210 springs to withstand the very harsh conditions of circuit racing.

Are my springs upside down?

We often get calls asking if the closer wound coils are supposed to go on top or bottom. Or basically which way is a spring supposed to be mounted onto a spring or shock. On most cars, they can only be mounted one way but there are some applications where the springs will physically fit both ways. We also get asked which springs go in the front and which go in the back.

Let’s use the GF210 spring for the AE86 (Part#tgf044) as an example.

The rear springs are on the left, and the front springs are on the right. As you can see, the rear spring’s coils are wound closer together on the top while the front spring’s coils are wound closer at the bottom.

A closer shot of the printed logo and part number on the springs. rear is marked as “TGF044R” and front is marked as “TGF044F” Also, an easy way to tell if the spring is right side up is that the printing on the spring itself should be right side up.

Tanabe Revel VLS Road Trip

Tanabe had recently announced the addition of gauges to their lineup, i was given the opportunity to see them up close and personal. I installed the Wideband Air/Fuel Ratio gauge, Water Temperature gauge, Oil Temperature gauge, Oil Pressure gauge, and Boost (which will just read vacuum in this case) gauge into my little Civic and started driving. The plan was to drive from Orange County to the Bay Area, drive around once in the bay area and drive back to Southern California.

So far the gauges and I have survived the trip to the Bay Area (about four hundred miles) and an additional four hundred miles since arriving, as a matter of fact – the gauges have performed admirably, not a single hiccup so far. I will leave you with a few photos that i snapped during “testing” for today, please look out for another update on the gauges next Thursday.

Carson’s Evo via Stance:Nation

Let’s go back and take a look at a well executed Evo. This feature on Stance:Nation was put out quite some time ago and what a lot of you may not know is that this guy had one of the first sets of Spectrum Silver wheels in the US. If you are unfamiliar with what Spectrum Silver is, it’s the unique color that you see on the SSR Professor SP1 wheels on the car. with no light it looks like a gunmetallic color but when the light hits it, you’ll get the “prism” effect, getting a rainbow like color on the wheel. This is not “neochrome” or titanium burnt like what most people think.

Tanabe Back Thursday?

Remember when the second half of Super Street Magazine was printed in black and white? Tanabe remembers. We thought it would be fun to dig up an old coilover install tech article from April of 2001, yes over twelve years ago. In this day and age of fly by night “suspension companies” looking to make a quick buck re-branding whatever they can get from the lowest bidder without understanding any technical aspect of their own product, perhaps you may find solace in knowing that a company that has been active in the USA for over a decade (and in Japan since 1982) is still alive and kicking. Anyway, lets get on to the photos.
