Anime Spotlight – Initial D

Initial D, which originally started out as a Japanese comic book(manga) in 1995, has now become a well known Japanese cartoon(anime) to many automotive and anime enthusiasts. The story is about a young man named Fujiwara Takumi who was taught how to drift through mountain passes in Japan by his father. Knowing nothing about cars, Takumi learns to race up and down these mountain passes in an AE86 Corolla with only 1 goal in mind…to deliver tofu for his family’s tofu business. Young Takumi, not knowing ANYTHING about street racing, becomes known as the White Ghost of Akina. His journey begins when he accidentally participates in an illegal street race. Despite the poor quality of the anime, the story line definately makes up for it. Besure to check it out at your local Japanese Fan store!
