Norcal Trip…

Headed to norcal this weekend to visit my brother in law and sister. Of course I come here all the time. And like this place. Come here so much that I already know my way around San Jose and San Francisco. But of course I did not come here just “cause”. It was more of a planned vacation for me and my girlfriend. As always it’s very cold up here. SF seems to be busy with some air show. Busy SF means horrible nightmare. Traffic everywhere, overpriced parkings, and of course the roar of flying jets passing by. Okay, that last one does not sound bad. It was rather cool. Blue angels flying through SF is too awesome. Flying around the Golden Gate Bridge and around the city. I’m surprise the windows from the buildings doesn’t burst from all these sounds. Good weekend indeed… but it’s back to reality. I had fun… got to see friends who still support SSR wheels lol. By the way those Sp1 looks so amazing on a white s2k.

Car show for Japanese Muscle!!

I had no idea that the 5th annual japanese car show was happening. My good friend told me about it the night before. And asks me if I wanted to go. At first I didn’t… but when he said something about pictures and collection. And I got suckered in. It’s about 5 bucks to get in… and double that for parking. The show was okay I guess… I don’t think it was worth my 5 bucks. Since I could have just stayed in the parking lot and saw more impressing cars out there. The car show was all about old school datsuns, corollas, hondas, and etc… It was more like “Japanese Muscle Car show” … reminded me of a ford mustang show. And instead of Superchargers everywhere… There were Turbochargers here and there. But all in all I think it was neat. But just expected more. After this we headed home where I started working on my RC stuff. Painted R34 Skyline body to silver with black hood. And prepped my cars to Drifting event at Redondo Beach on Sunday. Oh and at night did a quick seat swap and installed some side skirts on my car at some parking lot. LOVING my seats now!!

The Glory of Heli-Coil

For those of you with Afermarket Oil Pans

So, I’m sure some of you S-Chassis owners out there are rockin’ the SR20DET aka “Senior Bente.”  One popular upgrade is to change the factory oil pan to a large capacity aftermarket version with baffles. This increases the maximum oil fillage from 4quarts to 5quarts in most cases and also serves to prevent oil starvation at the sump during hard cornering.

What’s the downside? Most of these aftermarket oil pans are made of aluminum, whereas the stock pan is steel. This leads to higher chances of stripping the drain plug’s threads, and I know many of you out there have already ran into this problem. (I see a lot of oil pans on  zilvia.net being sold “with stripped drain-plug threads.” Why not repair them?

It’s actually quite easy. All you need is a Heli-Coil (or something equivalent) kit in size M12x1.25 (the size of the drain plug thread). What’s a Heli-Coil? Simply put, it’s a thinly-wound steel coil that replaces your broken weak aluminum threads with a much stronger steel surface.  I’m not going to explain EXACTLY how it works, (because that takes too long) but feel free to do your own research online.

Long story short, instead of replacing your oil pan because of a broken drain thread, just repair it. It may save you a chunk of change in the long run. Heli-Coils are available for purchase online, while the equivalent “Thread-Sert” can be found at your local Kragen and Autozone stores. However, good luck finding the right repair kit for your oil pan at one of those stores. For some reason, they sell everything up to M10, then they skip to M14 (for spark plug thread repair). Remember, you need an M12x1.25 kit for repairing the oil pan. Good luck!!

My Fail Moment…

It seems like I got a flat going to work on Tuesday. I have bad luck with flat tires. The worst flat tire I had was when I was riding my motorcyle going 80+ on the fwy. To make it worst it was a stupid little rock that caused my front tire to loose air. Not fun at all… Anyways, what I thought was a simple nail on the tire it was far more worst.

Yes that’s an inch gash and a big piece of metal punctured through my wheel… Sucks. According to the tire shop they can’t fix it. So I had to buy another tire. Swell… It may look bad now but this is just the start of my so called “Two-Day-FAIL
