How to install your Tanabe exhaust

This is a little tech guide for those who want to be 100% certain that they assembled their Tanabe exhaust system properly, although professional installation IS recommended if you are unsure! Below you will see exactly how to assemble the separate components of your exhaust system, but keep in mind the exhaust tubing itself is not pictured.  VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT use any power tools to install. Hand tools are used to ensure from over tightening or weakening a bolt. Also with a Tanabe exhaust system, all needed hardware is included and factory hangers and mounts are used.

The final product should look something like this…with the exhaust installed of course.

From left to right you see that your installation should be:
Bolt>Washer>Exhaust Flange>Gasket>Exhaust Flange>Washer>Lock Washer>Nut
*The lock washer helps from having the nut loosen.

From left to right you see that your installation should be:
Bolt>Washer>Exhaust Flange>Gasket>Exhaust Flange>Lock Nut
*The lock nut helps from loosening as the grooves dig into the exhaust flange.
(One nut is flipped to show these grooves)

Finished product should look like this.

Again, DO NOT use any power tools. Any power tools used may cause a bolt to snap or weaken over time.

Blue Tape is your friend :)

A lot of you out there may travel longer distances when going to a car show or just taking a nice long road trip somewhere this summer. One of the worse things you find when you get to your destination is how beat up your bumper can get with rock chips, road debris or remains of what used to be hundreds of bugs minding their own business, only to be splattered across the front of your car. This is also a common practice for guys that track or autox their car since there is always dirt and rocks to be kicked up at your car. For some people, this may be no big deal. But for those of you that want to protect your paint or with freshly painted bumpers, aero kits, etc like to us painters tape on your car to protect it. Commonly found in blue, other colors can be found.

To keep your bumper from looking like this…

You can do this..

Or you can just tape the whole car.

One tip when actually taping the car up is once you figure out the area that you want to tape, start applying the tape from back to the front. This way, the overlap will keep wind from picking up and unraveling the tape, causing the tape to fall off.  Also, make sure the car is clean 🙂

“Throw Back Thursday”

I’d like to share with you a couple photos that have been floating around the internet lately. I can’t help but to be amazed at how visually relevant this S13 Silvia still is, especially considering that these photos look to be around a decade old. Equipped with a set of 15″ SSR MKIIIs, this timeless styling rivals that of the modern 17″ and 18″ equipped S13s that are much more commonplace today. Check out the MKIIIs in detail here , and tell us what you think of this styling from yesteryear.

SSR Wheels Terminology

Spotted in the July 2013 issue of VIP Style magazine was a little write up about the parts that make up an SSR three-piece wheel, featuring the new Executor CV02.

1. Wheel face & spokes – This is the design of the wheel. The Executor CV02 is a mesh design style wheel.

2. Center cap – For Executor wheels these caps are available in silver or flat black. Included with purchase of the wheels.

3. Pierce bolts – These are the rivet bolts that attach the face to the barrels of the wheel. These are available in chrome (standard) or Classical Black (at additional cost).

4. Air valve – The valve stem of the wheel. Included with purchase of the wheels.

5. Rim – For the three piece wheel this includes both the inner and outer barrels that are seam welded together for increased strength.

6. Wheel size – The height or diameter of the wheel. The Executor CV02 (& CV02S) is available in 19, 20, and 21 inch diameters.

7. Wheel width – SSR’s three piece wheels are offered in a variety of different configurations of wheel widths and offsets.

8. Lug holes – For mounting to the wheel and secured with lug nuts.

9. P.C.D. – The bolt pattern of the wheel. The Executor CV02 wheel is available in 5/114.3, 5/112, and 5/120 bolt patterns.
