So, I randomly ended up at this Drum & Bass event in L.A. yesterday. Drum & Bass… for some reason, I had the wrong idea.
Isn’t this more like Jungle? I can’t believe fools dance to this sh*t. And every time between sets, there was some cool trance music, and I was like hot damn! Now that sounds pretty good! Then the DJ gets on, and it’s just a bass line with the same drum pattern … dum tss dum tssĀ dum tssĀ dum tss dummmmm!
That, coupled with the non-legible jungle MC’ing, and I was in headache mode.
So, alright, I don’t hate all drum & bass or jungle music. But here’s my main gripe with the genre. Let’s say you have a song, and it’s building up slowly… builds up more… and the synthesized melody starts to kick in.. little by little… more and more. And then you’re at the peak of the build-up. THEN THE BEAT DROPS AND THERE’S NO MORE SYNTH/PIANO. Where the hell did that go? It sounded so good, and now you just cut out the whole body of the melody.
Anyways, it was an interesting way to spend Halloween night. But, that’s probably the last time I go to a Drum & Bass event. It’s things like these that make ME want to be the DJ. Like, what is this stuff? Here, let me play you something good.
